Uber Ride Results in Indecent Exposure Charges for Passenger

Lake County– On Monday, October 8th, detectives with the Indiana State Police District 13 Investigations Division were asked to investigate a report of an Uber rideshare passenger who allegedly displayed his genitals to the Uber driver during the ride, according to Indiana State Police. Two days prior, on October 6th , a female Uber driver picked up a male passenger from Arizona Street in Gary, with a destination of the Lake County Community Corrections (LCC) Kimbrough Center in Crown Point. During the ride, the passenger, who was seated in the front passenger seat, allegedly fondled his genitals, displayed them, and made suggestive remarks towards the driver. The driver told the passenger to exit her vehicle, and she reported the incident to the on duty staff at the Community Corrections Kimbrough Center.

On October 9th, Indiana State Police Detectives interviewed the male passenger about the incident. He admitted to asking for the driver’s phone number and denied any allegations of fondling his genitals. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the victim had asked the suspect to exit the Uber multiple times.

The suspect, Isaiah Malik Johnson, 22, from Gary, IN, is currently incarcerated at the Lake County Jail on the following charge:

  • Indecent Exposure – Class C Misdemeanor

Charges listed above are accusations of a crime. Final charges will be determined by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until/unless proven guilty in court.
