Gary Man Arrested After Allegedly Taking Wallet and Cash From Car
Hobart- According to court documents, Kacey Sean Rauner, 31, of Gary, was arrested after police were dispatched to a business at 4733 W. 61st Avenue on October 13, 2025, in reference to a male who had just stolen money out of a vehicle and fled the area.
A witness told police she saw a male inside her employer’s vehicle in the parking lot of the business at 4733 W. 61st Avenue. She said the male asked her if it was her vehicle and, after she said it was not, he told her not to call 911 before fleeing toward Key West Inn, located directly south of the business.
The victim told police he was missing $440 in cash and a black Michael Kors wallet from his 2018 Jaguar. The wallet also contained an additional $2,000 in cash, bank cards, and insurance cards. Surveillance footage was reviewed and matched the description provided.
Officers obtained the guest list from Key West Inn and located a subject matching the description in one of the rooms. The witness immediately confirmed Rauner was the suspect involved in the theft.

• Theft where value of property is between $750 & $50,000 — Level 6 Felony
Lodged in the Lake County Jail on October 13, 2025.
