Portage Man Charged Again in Early Morning Robbery Outside Victim’s Home

Portage- Billy Ray Muston, a Portage man, has been charged after court documents state a woman was attacked and robbed outside her home shortly after leaving a local bar earlier this month.

According to court documents, the incident began on October 4, 2025, after the victim left the Rusty Nail Bar in Portage around 2:00 a.m. While she was still in her vehicle outside her home, a man opened the driver’s door and demanded her belongings. When she tried to hold onto her purse, the man began hitting her in the upper body “with more of a fist” and said, “Why’d you hit me in the face b**ch?” before running off with her purse, which contained $320 in cash, credit cards, and other personal items.

The victim told investigators she  she recognized the suspect from an online booking photo posted after an unrelated robbery arrest.

Security footage from the Rusty Nail Bar showed a small compact vehicle arriving at 1:30 a.m. Two men exited the vehicle, one wearing a black driver’s cap later collected from the victim’s driveway. The footage showed the victim leaving the bar at 2:00 a.m., followed immediately by the same compact vehicle. The robbery was reported at 2:18 a.m. Investigators noted that a visible tattoo on Muston’s wrist matched what was seen in the surveillance footage.

Charge filed October 15, 2025:

    •    Robbery — Level 5 Felony

The suspect remains lodged in the Porter County Jail.
