Teen Fatally Shot in Lansing Identified by Coroner

Lansing — The Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday night in Lansing, Illinois.

According to a press release from the Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as 17-year-old Ross Anthony Whitt of Lansing, IL. Officials were dispatched to Munster Community Hospital at approximately 12:47 a.m. on October 26, 2025, after being notified of the teen’s death.

Whitt was pronounced deceased by an emergency room physician at 12:43 a.m. The Coroner’s Office confirmed that Whitt died from gunshot wounds, and his manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled to be performed Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point.

The incident occurred in the 2800 block of 189th Street in Lansing, Illinois. Witnesses told Region News there was an after Homecoming Party when what sounded like automatic gunfire erupted outside. One person was transported by Lansing Paramedics to Munster Community in serious condition. Around 11:50 PM, Munster units attempted to stop a white Camaro that fled through town eventually stopping at Community Hospital with a second gun shot victim in it. The status of the second victim is not known.

Agencies involved in the investigation include the Lansing Police Department and Lansing Paramedics.

No additional details have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
