Motorcyclist Arrested After 100 MPH Pursuit Through Porter County

Porter County-A 24-year-old Chesterton man, Ronald Lee Moore Jr., has been charged in Porter Superior Court 1 after allegedly fleeing police on a motorcycle at speeds exceeding 100 mph, discarding a backpack containing a loaded handgun, and admitting possession of THC vapes.

At approximately 2:38 a.m., Burns Harbor Police observed a black, street-bike-style motorcycle traveling south on State Road 149 near Old Porter Road with no visible license plate. As the officer moved closer to observe, the motorcycle accelerated to 60 mph in a 45-mph zone, crossed the center line, and passed another vehicle. When the officer activated his emergency lights, the motorcycle continued at high speed without stopping .

The pursuit continued south on SR 149, where speeds reportedly exceeded 100 mph as the motorcyclist ignored emergency lights and sirens, passing multiple Porter County Sheriff’s units that joined the chase. The motorcycle turned west onto State Road 130, then north onto County Line Road, where speeds again topped 100 mph.

The rider allegedly disregarded a stop sign at County Line Road and W 700 N and continued into Portage, where Portage Police units assisted. A deer crossed the roadway during the pursuit, though it was unclear whether it struck the motorcycle. The suspect turned onto Stone Avenue, then Willowcreek Road, and finally east on U.S. Highway 6, continuing at high speed before turning onto N 200 W, where the road was closed to southbound traffic .

According to police, Moore attempted to maneuver around road closed signs and lost control after crossing over large rocks, crashing and falling from the motorcycle. He was immediately taken into custody. When questioned, he allegedly told officers he fled because he did not have a motorcycle permit and became scared once the pursuit began, admitting, “I knew I was going to jail once I ran, so I kept going.”

While speaking with police, Moore stated that a black backpack had fallen off during the chase and contained a two-tone Taurus handgun. Officers located the shredded bag along County Line Road, recovering a loaded handgun with one round chambered and 12 live rounds in the magazine. Moore said he had purchased the gun from Blythe’s before the store closed.

He also told officers he had four THC vapes and one nicotine vape in his pocket, which were recovered during a search. Moore refused medical treatment but was transported to Northwest Health Porter for medical clearance before being booked into the Porter County Jail without incident .
