Hammond Woman Charged After Slapping Nurse During Appointment
Munster- A 35-year-old Hammond woman, Jovanni Lyn Rodriguez, has been charged in Lake County,after police say she slapped a nurse across the face during an appointment at a Munster medical facility.
According to court documents, Munster police were called around 1:50 p.m. on September 28, 2025, to a facility in the 900 block of MacArthur Boulevard after staff reported an assault on an employee.
When officers arrived, a nurse told police that while she was speaking with a patient, identified as Jovanni Rodriguez, Rodriguez suddenly slapped her on the left side of the face, causing pain and leaving a visible red handprint. The redness was photographed and documented before it began to fade, according to the affidavit.
After the incident, Rodriguez reportedly began yelling at the nurse about “getting her food.” The nurse left the room and contacted security for assistance.
When officers spoke with Rodriguez, she admitted to slapping the nurse, stating, “I slapped her,” and said she did it because she messed up my relationship,according to the affidavit.
Charge filed Oct. 9, 2025:
• Battery Against a Public Safety Official — Level 6 Felony
Rodriguez was lodged in the Lake County Jail on November 6, 2025.
