Gary Man With Pending Drug Warrant Arrested After Stolen Firearm Recovered In Traffic Stop
Gary- A 25-year-old Gary man, Javon S. Davis, who had a pending felony drug case, was arrested after officers recovered a stolen handgun during a traffic stop near 21st Avenue and Ohio Street.
Around 2:44 p.m., an officer on patrol recognized the driver of a white Nissan Altima as Davis, a wanted subject known to the officer from prior police contacts. Davis did not have written identification but verbally identified himself as Javon S. Davis, a date of birth later confirmed through the booking process.
During the stop, officers searched Davis and found a loaded black Ruger 9mm semi-automatic handgun concealed in his pant leg. A computer inquiry showed the firearm had been reported stolen out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, following a July 17, 2021 vehicle break-in while the gun’s owner attended a Milwaukee Bucks game.
A small child was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. According to the affidavit, Davis told officers he had just picked up his daughter from 21st Century Charter School in Gary before the traffic stop occurred.
Davis was taken into custody following the recovery of the stolen firearm.
