Five Felony Intimidation Counts Filed Against Illinois Man After Alleged Threats in Rensselaer Hospital

Ajaysinh Pravinsinh Vaghela, 36, of Addison, Illinois, has been charged in Jasper County after police say he threatened to kill hospital staff and responding officers during an incident at Franciscan Health Rensselaer Hospital in the early morning hours of November 10, 2025.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched around 1:24 a.m. to Franciscan Health Rensselaer Hospital in the 1100 block of East Grace Street for a report that Vaghela was making threats toward hospital personnel while being treated as a patient. A hospital employee reported that Vaghela stated he was going to kill everyone in the hospital and leave during the encounter.

When officers arrived, Vaghela was still inside the hospital. The affidavit states he appeared intoxicated, with watery, bloodshot eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. Police say Vaghela attempted to leave the hospital while continuing to threaten to kill the officers on scene. Law enforcement present included members of the Rensselaer Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

    •    Intimidation: Committed Because of the Occupation of the Victim – Level 6 Felony (5 Counts)
