Woman Charged After Spitting in the Face of Hospital Staff
Michelle Marie Saqui, 36, of Merrillville, has been charged following a battery incident reported at a local hospital.
According to the probable cause affidavit, police were dispatched at approximately 6:29 p.m. to the hospital located near the 8700 block of Broadway in Merrillville on the evening of November 23, 2025, in reference to a battery complaint. A staff member reported that a patient had forced her way out of a room into the triage area, prompting personnel to restrain her. The affidavit states that during the restraint, the patient, identified as Saqui, spit in the staff member’s face.
Charging documents indicate that officers did not speak with Saqui at the time due to her being sedated upon arrival. The affidavit notes that police had previous contact with Saqui earlier the same day regarding an apparent overdose before she was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
According to the report, officers later returned to transport Saqui to the Lake County Jail. She was placed into handcuffs and transported, but the affidavit states she was not admitted due to her condition and was taken back to the hospital by ambulance. Police were then dispatched again to transport Saqui a second time to the jail, where she was taken into custody by staff, according to charging documents.
Charges filed November 24,2025:
