Portage Woman Gets 20 Years For Conspiracy In Gary Murder Case

A Portage woman has been sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction after admitting she conspired to commit murder in connection with the April 30, 2024 killing of Kylin Stovall-Bursey in Gary, according to Lake Superior Court records.

Angelia Nicole Cross, 48, appeared Dec. 4, 2025, in Lake Superior Court, Criminal Division 4, where the court accepted her plea agreement and entered judgment of conviction on Count II: Conspiracy to Commit Murder, a Level 1 felony.

Under the plea agreement, Cross was sentenced to 20 years in DOC with no option for alternative placement, and was granted jail credit from October 11, 2024 to December 3, 2025, plus statutory good-time credit.   The State dismissed Count I: Murder.

According to the stipulated factual basis, Cross met with multiple family members on April 30, 2025 to discuss a car accident she had been involved in and informed them that the other driver, Kylin Bursey, was located nearby.

Cross then drove her husband, Billy Cross, to that location and pointed out Bursey to him. Billy Cross confronted and murdered Bursey, and Cross then drove her husband away from the scene.

She admitted she knowingly or intentionally conspired to murder Bursey by committing an overt act, resulting in his death.

Security video recovered by investigators showed Billy Cross, Angelia Cross, and another individual arriving together, yelling at Bursey, and approaching him. Cross could be heard yelling “right there with the hat” shortly before Billy Cross raised a handgun and fired multiple rounds, killing Bursey.

Witness interviews documented that a minor car accident earlier that day between Cross and Bursey escalated into the fatal confrontation.

The autopsy determined Bursey died from at least six gunshot wounds, officially ruled a homicide.

Cross was remanded to the Department of Correction to begin serving the 20-year sentence, and court costs were waived.
