Munster Man Arrested in South Suburbs, Charged With Murder and Dismemberment in Grisly Chicago Homicide

A Munster man wanted in connection with a brutal Chicago homicide earlier this year has been arrested and formally charged, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Authorities say 32-year-old Deparris Slaughter, of Munster, was taken into custody Saturday in the 13800 block of South Brainard Avenue in Burnham, Illinois. His arrest comes months after investigators identified him as the suspect in a March homicide that shocked the North Lawndale community.

Slaughter has been charged with four felonies:

  • First-degree murder
  • Residential arson
  • Dismembering a human body
  • Concealing a homicidal death

Police say the charges stem from an incident on March 7, 2025, when a 68-year-old man was fatally shot inside his home in the 2300 block of South Kirkland Avenue on Chicago’s West Side. After the shooting, the home was reportedly set on fire.

Responding officers and firefighters discovered the victim dismembered in the basement after extinguishing the blaze. Detectives quickly identified Slaughter as the suspected offender, but he had been on the run since the day of the killing.

Slaughter was processed over the weekend, and a judge is expected to decide Monday whether he will remain held while awaiting trial.
