Crown Point Man Facing Multiple Felony Drug Charges After I-65 Investigation
A 36-year-old Crown Point man, Isaiah Allen Poindexter, is facing multiple felony drug charges following an Indiana State Police investigation that began during a rollover crash response along Interstate 65 in northern Indiana.
According to court documents, troopers were dispatched at approximately 11:11 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, to a reported rollover crash on Interstate 65 northbound near the 194 mile marker in White County during a snowstorm that left road conditions icy. While responding with emergency lights activated, troopers observed a black SUV tailgating and passing marked police vehicles near the 190 mile marker, despite hazardous conditions.
The vehicle was stopped near the 192 mile marker, where the driver was detained. While being advised of his rights, the driver told troopers, before being questioned, that he was on his way to meet his drug dealer at a gas station to purchase half an ounce of cocaine. Court documents state the driver said he could prove the transaction by showing text messages and phone calls and indicated he was carrying $400 to $500 to complete the purchase.
Troopers were allowed to access the driver’s phone, where messages showed coded language related to drug quantities and pricing. Investigators learned the meeting location was set for a Pilot Gas Station near the Remington exit. The driver explained that “seven” referred to seven grams of cocaine and that Xanax pills were also expected to be part of the transaction.
Troopers traveled to the gas station area and observed a gold Chevrolet Impala parked in the lot with its headlights on and engine running. After the detained driver placed a call warning the suspected dealer that he had been stopped, the Impala immediately left the gas station and traveled eastbound on U.S. 231.
Court documents state troopers initiated an investigatory stop as the vehicle entered the northbound ramp to Interstate 65. As emergency lights were activated, troopers observed a plastic bag containing a white substance thrown from the front passenger-side window before the vehicle came to a stop.
During a high-risk traffic stop, the driver exited the vehicle, and a firearm fell from his lap onto the ground. The driver was taken into custody without incident and identified as Isaiah Allen Poindexter of Crown Point.
A K-9 unit was deployed to the area where the bag was discarded and located a plastic tied-off baggie containing a white powdery substance. Due to weather conditions, a limited search of the vehicle was conducted at the scene, and a firearm, suspected narcotics, and a cellphone were seized. The vehicle was later towed for further processing.
Poindexter was transported to the Jasper County Jail. Court documents state the white powdery substance field tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately eight grams, including packaging. A search warrant executed the following evening on the vehicle led to the recovery of Xanax (alprazolam) and an additional cellphone.
Lodged in the Jasper County Jail.
