Hammond Police Investigating Circumstances Which Lead To A Shooting
On February 23, 2026, at approximately 1:25 p.m., Hammond Police officers responded to the area of the 7000 block of Van Buren in reference to a reported shooting, according to Hammond Police.
Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from an incident involving individuals who were known to one another. During the course of the incident, shots were fired, striking one adult male multiple times while he was inside a vehicle.
After being shot, the victim drove from the scene to seek assistance nearby and was subsequently flown to a Chicago hospital. At this time, the victim’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with this incident. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting, police told RNS.
