La Porte County Man Accused Of Lying On Marriage License Application About Sex Offender Status

A 66-year-old La Porte County man is facing a felony charge after investigators say he knowingly provided false information, including denying his status as a registered sex offender, while applying for a marriage license.

According to court documents, Bradley D. Armstrong, 66, is charged following an incident on March 4, 2026, at the La Porte County Courthouse in La Porte.

The investigation began after staff at the clerk’s office reported that a subject may have lied on a marriage application. A captain with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the courthouse and met with staff regarding the incident.

Clerk’s office staff reported that Armstrong and a woman arrived at the window at approximately 10:20 a.m. to apply for a marriage license. Both parties were provided the Indiana application for marriage, and a deputy clerk read the required questions aloud as part of the process.

According to the affidavit, Question #5 on the application asks, “Are you a convicted lifetime sex or violent offender?” Armstrong reportedly hesitated before answering, “No.”

Investigators state Armstrong is in fact a lifetime registered sex offender, and authorities noted they had recently had contact with him in that capacity prior to this incident.

Court records further indicate there were noted competency concerns involving the woman who accompanied Armstrong, including that she is under guardianship by her parents.

Authorities also allege Armstrong provided an inaccurate address on the application. Investigators say his verified registered address differs from what was listed.

Prior to signing the application, Armstrong acknowledged the statement on the form that reads, in part, “I swear/affirm that the information given in this application is true and correct,” and that knowingly furnishing false information when applying for a marriage license constitutes a Level 6 felony.

Armstrong then signed the application, attesting that the information he provided was true and correct.

Court documents state Armstrong has been a lifetime registered sex offender following a conviction in La Porte County Circuit Court in 2002, though the specific underlying offense was not listed in the affidavit.
