Schneider Man Accused Of Strangling Pregnant Girlfriend, Injuring Officer After Pursuit

Nathan Newt Wilson, 27, of Schneider, is facing multiple felony charges in Lake County after investigators say he allegedly strangled his pregnant girlfriend in front of their young child, and weeks later led police on a pursuit before injuring an officer during his arrest.

According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies were dispatched on February 26, 2026, to a residence in Schneider after a neighbor reported a disturbance.

When officers arrived, the woman told police everything was fine and that she and Wilson had only been arguing. Officers cleared the scene.

However, after police left, the situation escalated.

The woman later told investigators that Wilson became upset again and began yelling inside the residence. She stated their four-year-old son was present during the incident. She also told police she was approximately three months pregnant with Wilson’s child at the time and that he was aware of the pregnancy.

During the argument, Wilson allegedly grabbed her by the hair and forced her face down into a mattress, holding her by the back of the neck.

When she attempted to leave the residence, she reported that Wilson pulled her back inside and grabbed her by the front of the neck, strangling her until she nearly lost consciousness.

She described feeling “woozy” and believed she was about to pass out.

According to court documents, Wilson then continued yelling, spit in her face twice, and slapped her with an open hand.

The woman told investigators she did not call police that night because Wilson had broken her phone screen and punched a hole in the wall. She said she feared for her safety and the safety of their child if she attempted to contact authorities.

Investigators documented that the woman reported bruising, cuts, and pain to her head after a “large chunk” of her hair was pulled out during the incident. She was taken to the hospital the following day, where medical staff confirmed her unborn child was not harmed.

Court records also show a prior reported domestic violence incident involving Wilson in 2023, where the same woman reported she had been “choked” by him in the presence of their child.

As a result of the domestic violence investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Wilson.

On March 20, 2026, a Lake County Sheriff’s officer observed a Chevy Malibu in the area of West 240th Avenue in Shelby and recognized the vehicle as one previously associated with Wilson.

The officer confirmed through dispatch that Wilson had an active warrant and initiated a traffic stop by activating emergency lights and sirens.

According to the affidavit, the vehicle did not stop and continued traveling southbound, ignoring both lights and sirens as well as commands given over the patrol vehicle’s public address system.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop near State Route 55 and West 24th Avenue. As the officer exited his vehicle to approach, the driver suddenly fled again at a high rate of speed, leading to a pursuit.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped near a residence in Shelby. Wilson then exited the vehicle and fled on foot despite commands to stop.

He was ultimately apprehended, but according to court documents, he actively resisted arrest.

During the struggle, Wilson pulled his arms away while officers attempted to restrain him. He then grabbed onto the officer’s vest and pulled the officer toward him.

Investigators say Wilson attempted to grab the officer’s taser and, during the altercation, knocked the officer’s body camera off.

The officer reported suffering a cut to his hand, a bruised forearm, and multiple abrasions during the incident.

Wilson was ultimately subdued after being tased and taken into custody.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
