On Tuesday March 10 around 11:30am Portage Police responded to a suspicious person call at 6050 Hwy 6 at Meijer Gas Station. A caller told police a man was in the parking lot yelling at customers and when told to leave he refused.
When officers arrived they located the man now identified as Mario Lasalle Adams, 39, from Grand Rapids, sitting in a white Buick. Officers approached the vehicle and spoke to Adams who stated he had done nothing wrong and he was not leaving because this was public property. Police learned Adams was there earlier in the week harassing customers and was told leave employees said in a report. Adams however continued to argue with officers who had asked for his identification and became irate & disorderly. The officer asked again for his ID before advising Adams he would be charged with Disorderly Conduct and trespassed from the Meijers property. Adams refused and had to be forcefully removed by officers out of the car, during the process Adams swung on Officers with closed fists in the direction of their faces but missing. Adams continued to resist while kicking multiple officers and slightly injuring police. After the officer was kicked he stepped back from the vehicle and Adams got out and took an aggressive stance at the officer reports state. The officers on scene then tased Adams which was unsuccessful and he continued fighting officers. While the struggle continued an off duty State Trooper and two Excise Police Officers stepped in to assist in getting Adams detained on the ground. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the altercation and Adams was brought to Porter Portage Hospital for a complaint of pain to his shoulder / elbow and was released. He was transported to Porter County Jail on the following charges –
4 Counts of Battery – Felony
Resisting Law Enforcement – Felony
Disorderly Conduct – Misdemeanor
Criminal Trespass
Porter County Sheriff Office did not have a mugshot immediately available.
