Chicago Man Shot & Killed In East Chicago

On March 14, 2020 at approximately 8:35pm Officers were dispatched to the area of 3800 Elm Street in reference to shotspotter indicating that numerous rounds were fired in the area, East Chicago Police Deputy Chief Jose Rivera stated. Upon Officers arrival they located a silver Nissan Altima that appeared to have crashed into numerous parked vehicles in front of 3822 Elm Street with a male subject inside. The subject was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the neck area, Rivera told RNS. The victim was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his wounds. The victim now identified by The Lake County Coroner as Perry Booker Jr, 20, of Chicago, IL.

There was 4 other people in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Two of the parties were sent to St Catherine’s Hospital to be treated for minor injuries related to the crash. A witness of the crash told RNS these victims were followed from a party and could not get away from the car pursuing them. Personal information on these parties will not be released due to this being an active homicide investigation, Rivera said. There is also no suspect information being released at this time.
