Indiana Updates Numbers But Uncertainty Is Evident

Sunday morning the latest numbers were updated by the Indiana Department of Health showing 4 new presumptive positive cases and only 121 tested. With LaPorte having two of the nearest cases here in Indiana and Cook County around 50 they know about it, the real question is when will Lake & Porter Counties be added to the map. LaPorte County cases came in yesterday morning. A 55 year old man from the City of LaPorte is in critical condition at Porter Regional Hospital. The state has had 0 deaths from COVID-19 but nation numbers continue to rise with the hot spots being Washington and New York.

The Health Department stated Friday there could be upwards of 50,000 here in Indiana that have the virus already but tests were just not available to everyone. Last week Hazel Crest Illinois Police were directly in contact with a positive patient that entered the Department. Police were unaware till days later which sent worries through the department. Multiple officers were quarantined to protect others.

Rumors were running rampant of positive cases in Lake & Porter Counties but nothing has been confirmed as of Sunday morning. The state continues to stress the importance of constantly washing hands for 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, disinfect surfaces, and if you are sick stay home. If you believe you have symptoms you are asked to call ahead to the local hospital or physician before going on.

The government has enabled funding to cover the costs of missing work if you are sick and quarantined for two weeks. NIPSCO and other companies are offering programs in this crises to help those out of work.
