Lake County Sheriff & Gary Police Uncovering Human Skeleton
Police from multiple agencies have converged on Brunswick Park on Clark Road near 8th in Gary. The Lake County Mobile Command Center is set up in the park parking lot along with numerous search and rescue vehicles. Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr along with other law enforcement agents could be seen grabbing shovels and riding in a pick up truck down to a wooded area behind the park. The Lake County Coroner is also on scene at this time. Sources close to the investigation told RNS human remains were found Wednesday afternoon and cadaver dogs would be brought in today to continue to search the area. We will continue to provide updates as they come in.
Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr told RNS, Gary Police were called out Thursday afternoon after a city worker walking in a wooded area found a human skull. Gary Police & Sheriff Deputies quarantined the area off after collecting the skull. The Sheriffs Department, Gary Police, Lake County Coroner, and Illiana Search & Rescue returned Friday morning to search the area more with more detail. Martinez said, they found more of the remains Friday and should have good dental records to I.D. the individual. Police cleared the scene around 4pm Friday.
