Hobart Man Charged With Attempted Possession of Child Pornography Via Snapchat & Instagram
On April 16, 2020, Heder Muniz, 20, who resides on the 1500 block of State Street in Hobart was taken into custody at the Hobart Police Department for an active warrant for his arrest through the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for Attempting to Possess Child Pornography, according to Hobart Police.
On or about March 31, 2020, the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office filed six level 6 felony counts against Muniz for Attempting to Possess Child Pornography. Mr. Muniz is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on a $7000.00 bond.
The Detective who investigated these allegations stated that Muniz would ask young girls to send him graphic photos of themselves through Snap Chat, Instagram and through text messages. If the victims didn’t send the graphic images of themselves, he would threaten them through the social media outlets and through text messaging.
Parents, please monitor your child’s cell phone and social media sites/ apps, Hobart PD stressed. This is a serious problem occurring in today’s society with our children and adult predators trying to take advantage of them. Remind your children that once an image is taken and shared into the digital world, the image can last forever, even if they delete it off of their device.
