Sheriff Pursuit Nets Gun And Driver Arrested

On Wednesday around 3pm officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Highway Interdiction Unit attempted to pull over a vehicle heading north on I-65 near Route 2 (mile marker 240). The driver refused to pull over, Sheriffs Department told RNS.  “Indiana State Police deployed stop sticks and successfully deflated the tires on the fleeing vehicle,” said Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.  The vehicle exited onto westbound US-30 as its tires were deflating and disintegrating.  It crashed on US-30 near Broadway.  The male subject who was driving was apprehended. Officers determined he was driving a vehicle that was rented out of Florida. He was in possession of a handgun and refused to identify himself.

“I would like to thank all of the officers involved for the skill and dedication they exhibited in stopping this vehicle and arresting this subject,” said Sheriff Oscar Martinez, Jr.  The case is still under investigation.
