Hammond Shooting Leads To Victims Calling For Help In Munster

On May 4th, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Hammond police responded to the 1300 block of Saxony Street in reference to shots fired, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police. Saxony Street is located inside the Columbia Center Complex which as of the last year has been plagued by a number of shootings. Upon arrival, Officers learned that a vehicle occupied by a 19-year-old male and a 24-year-old female was shot multiple times. Witnesses stated there were at least two suspects and they were described as black males wearing dark hoodies. The victims were able to drive away to safe location and contact police, Kellogg said. Munster Police responded to Target for a welfare check around 2:38pm, Lt. John Peirick of The Munster Police told RNS. The vehicle had numerous bullet holes in the driver door. The male victim sustained a minor graze wound and the female was not injured. A building in the Saxony Homes was also struck but there were no injuries, Kellogg stated. No suspect vehicle description is available at this time, Hammond Police said.

  1. Perhaps Munster should close the border along Hammond the same way Hammond closed the border along Calumet City, by erecting a street side curb.
