Serious Crashes On Cline Ave Wednesday Morning

At approximately 3:00 AM Wednesday, the Lake County Traffic Unit was called out for a single vehicle crash on SR 912 N just south of 5th Ave, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokeswoman Pam Jones. Witnesses reported a Jeep suddenly veered out of its lane of traffic and into the outer guard rail. It bounced off and flipped over an undetermined amount of times before coming to a rest on its roof, Jones told RNS.

The two occupants crawled out before the officers arrived on scene. Before being transported, the responding officers noted the female had a serious head wound and a male had an obviously broken arm and a significant amount of skin torn from his hand. The occupants first claimed a 10 year old was in the vehicle with them, then claimed an adult female was with them, and later claimed an adult male was, Police said. The officers performed an extensive searched of the area to the best of their ability and asked for assistance from the Lake Aviation Unit helicopter; which was also unable to locate a third occupant in the area. Both parties were transported for medical treatment while Cline was shutdown till around 8am Wednesday. This traffic back up resulted in another multi vehicle crash.

At approximately 6:15 Wednesday, an officer with the  Lake County Sheriff’s Department was heading to a minor crash when he spotted a 4-vehicle crash at Cline Avenue and I-80. A Ford F-150, Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Impala, and Subaru Imprezza were involved, Police told RNS. It appears that all cars were slowing for traffic as Cline Ave. Ramp C was merging into northbound Cline Ave.  The Subaru was starting to pass the Chevy pickup truck on the right, and the Tahoe SUV was in front of the Subaru. The Impala was driving behind at a high rate of speed, police stated.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Impala was swerving to the left and first struck the back of the Imprezza, causing the Imprezza to hit the back of the Tahoe.  The momentum of the Impala then caused it to rear end the F-150 pickup. The Tahoe was pushed to the right from the impact and struck the concrete barrier on the right shoulder of Cline Avenue.

The Impala, Tahoe, and Imprezza were towed from the scene. The driver of the Imprezza was transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital by Gary Fire/EMS.  A citation is pending, police said.
