Police Investigate Hammond Bank Robbery and Catch Suspects

On August 6th, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Hammond Police were dispatched to the Peoples Bank located at 130 Rimbach Street in reference to a robbery to the bank, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police. Upon arrival, officers learned that there were two suspects that fled the area in a black vehicle with an unknown amount of money. A firearm was implied during the robbery but not displayed, Kellogg stated. No one was injured during the incident.

Hammond police, in conjunction with the FBI, utilized Hammond’s Blue Net license plate reader system and identified the suspect vehicle, Kellogg said. Less than three hours after the incident, the two suspects were taken into custody in Illinois. Kellogg said, the suspect vehicle and stolen money were recovered as well.

Additional information regarding the arrest, identity of the suspects, and charges, will be released when available after charges are locked. Hammond Police thanked the FBI and the Matteson, Illinois Police for their assistance.
