Man Airlifted After Jet Ski Backfires & Burns Him

On August 9th, 2020 at approximately 4:11 pm, Cedar Lake Police Department along with Cedar Lake Fire Department were dispatched to the 7100 block of 140th Ave for an accident injury.  Personnel were advised that a 28-year-old male had been burnt and was bleeding from the face, according to Cedar Lake Police.

​Upon arrival, Cedar Lake Police Officers along with Cedar Lake Fire Department found the 28-year-old male conscience and alert, but had extensive burns to both arms, face and chest area.  It was learned that the male had been working on his Personal Water Craft (PWC) when the water craft backfired causing the injuries.  

​Due to the male subjects’ injuries, The University of Chicago Medicine Aeromedical Network (UCAN) was notified.  UCAN flight crews met with the Cedar Lake Fire Department in the parking lot of Hanover Central High School where the male was transferred to the Flight Team.
