Fresh Produce Harvested from Indiana State Prison Garden Donated to Salvation Army of Michigan City

Gardens tended by offenders at the Indiana State Prison yielded more than 250 pounds of assorted vegetables that were recently donated to the Salvation Army of Michigan City food bank.  Donated vegetables included zucchini, yellow squash, assorted peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and many varieties of greens and lettuce.

“It’s great to be able to supply food to the local food bank and assist the community with the produce grown by the offender population.” said Warden Ron Neal. “This is a win-win situation, in that the Citizens of Michigan City receive the donation and the men tending the crops literally see the fruit of their labor and know their efforts are impacting the lives of others.”

The Salvation Army of Michigan City offers many services to help the local community and the staff and offenders at the Indiana State Prison are grateful to help with their mission.  To learn more, visit the Salvation Army of Michigan City website
