3 Year Old Girl Drowns In Pool Monday Morning

Porter Fire Department & Chesterton Fire Department responded to an unresponsive 3 year old girl that drowned in a pool Monday morning shortly before 9am, according to Porter Fire Chief Jay Craig. Paramedics performed CPR on arrival and the entire trip to Porter Regional Hospital, Fire Chief John Jarka of the Chesterton Fire Department told Region News. The child was revived and had a pulse, Police later told RNS. She was then flown to a Chicago hospital from Valparaiso Hospital.

It is believed that the family is from out of town and was staying at a vacation rental on the 200 block of N. Mineral Springs Rd, according to Captain John Lane of the Porter Police Department. The mother had left a few minutes prior to obtain breakfast and the father was present in another room leaving the child unattended a few minutes, Lane told RNS. This remains under investigation, police stated.
