Crown Point Police K-9 Retires After 8 Years Serving
Crown Point Police announced Monday K-9 Ace will be retiring effectively immediately, according to Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land. The decision comes after Ace was diagnosed with arthritis developing in his spine which is causing symptoms that have been impacting him, Land said.
K-9 Ace and his handler Cpl. Dave Wilkins have been partnered for 8 years serving Crown Point and neighboring agencies. Ace has been involved in countless drug finds, tracking situations, and incidences where he was called upon to protect his fellow officers.
“Although it was a difficult decision for Cpl. Wilkins to make, the administration fully supports it, and we agree with him that is what is best for Ace, is priority. Ace will retire with 8 great years of service to the City & PD,” Land said.
Crown Point still has two remaining K-9’s Patrol Division and one that is used for the Dare program.
