Schererville Police Take Down Stolen Car & Carjacking Suspect Sunday
On December 20, 2020 at approximately 9:13PM, a Schererville officer observed a silver Audi driving erratically through a parking lot in the 1040 block of US Hwy 41 in an area where several patrons, including children were walking, according to Deputy Chief Jeff Cook of The Schererville Police.
The officer followed the vehicle as it turned onto Willowbrook Drive towards US Hwy 41, where the driver stopped for the red automatic signal. The officer conducted a records check on the license plate of the vehicle and it returned stolen, reported through Chicago Police Department from a carjacking incident on December 12, 2020. As the light turned green, the officer began to follow the Audi northbound on US Hwy 41. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the Audi, however the driver fled at a high rate of speed northbound on US Hwy 41, Cook said. Officers continued to pursue the Audi until the driver lost control and the vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of a business in the 9600 block of Indianapolis Boulevard. The driver and the passenger both immediately exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The passenger a nineteen year old female from Chicago was immediately taken into custody, the driver, a nineteen year old male from Chicago was taken into custody shortly afterward, east of the scene.
The female passenger was taken to the Schererville Police Department and later released. The male was taken to the Lake County Jail with several Felony and Misdemeanor charges pending against him. Charges include Auto Theft, Resisting Law enforcement, Reckless Driving, No Driver’s License ever issued and Possession of Marijuana, Cook told RNS.
