Domestic Incident Ends With A Gun Shot In Schererville
Approximately 3:10pm Saturday, Schererville Police responded to a domestic incident at an apartment in the 8000 block of Matterhorn Lane, according to Assistant Chief Jeff Cook of The Schererville Police.
Upon arrival, the responding officer attempted to gain entry to the apartment while hearing a female screaming for help. At that time, the officer heard a gunshot and made entry to the apartment and determined the male subject was injured as a result of a self inflicted gunshot, Cook stated. The male subject, 33 years old, was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to the University of Chicago with life threatening injuries. A Schererville officer sustained a minor, non-life threatening injury and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released, Cook added.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be available at a later time, police said.
