A Calumet City Woman Died After Being Hit By Car In Munster
On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at approximately 9:30 PM, Munster Police were dispatched to the area of 45th Ave. and White Oak Ave. in reference to a female lying in the roadway, who was struck by a vehicle, according to Lt. John Peirick.
Upon arrival, Munster Police located a female, 50 years of age, from Calumet City, Illinois, lying in the outside lane of 45th Ave. with obvious trauma and no signs of life. Also located at the scene was a silver SUV with damage to the front of the vehicle and the driver, a 73-year-old Munster resident.
The driver of the SUV stated that she was traveling westbound in the outside lane of 45th Ave. when she observed something in the roadway and attempted to avoid the accident but was unable to and subsequently struck the above-described female, Peirick said.
The female that was struck was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been released. The driver of the vehicle had no injuries and was released at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing by Munster Police and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident.
