A Local Hero Retires Today
On March 10th 1980 Ray Borchert was sworn in as a Lake County Sheriff’s Department Officer.
On October 17th 1994 Borchert was promoted to Sergeant. January 5th 1998 he was promoted to Lieutenant. July 1st 1999 he was promoted to Deputy Commander. February 11th 2000 promoted to Captain.
Some of the many divisions Borchert worked while with the department have been patrol, traffic, auto detail, narcotics, drug task force, criminal investigations, gangs, IA, US Marshal Task Force, swat team and swat commander, training division, transportation and many more. Borchert excelled at every position he was assigned and took passion for each one. He has been a mentor and teacher through his time on the department. Borchert has given himself to the community of Lake County for over 40 years and never regretted one second of it.
“Growing up me and my brother have always looked at our dad as a superhero everytime he put his uniform on and walked out the door,” Ray Borchert Jr told RNS. “Once we were old enough we made the decision to follow in our dads footsteps. We have been able to learn from him, work on calls with him and so much more.”
After 41 years of service to the citizens of Lake County Captain Ray Borchert badge #276 is 10-42 (out of service) for the final time.
