Alcohol May Be A Factor In Early Morning Crash In Highland
On Monday June 23,, 2025, at approximately 4:00am, Highland Police were dispatched to the 8000 block of Kennedy Avenue for a report of a vehicle vs Nipsco pole crash.
On arrival, officers found that a 2018 Kia sedan had left the roadway and struck and knocked down a large Nipsco pole, with the pole and wires now laying in the roadway.
Officers found that the driver, a 43 year old
female from Chicago, IL, was in the car with various non-life threatening injuries. Officers also found a 2 year old male child in a child seat in the rear seat of the vehicle. The child was not injured. Officers observed signs that the driver had likely been drinking.
The driver was ultimately transported to a local hospital for her injuries and a blood draw was completed at the hospital. The child was
released to a family member and the Indiana Department of Child Services was notified.
Further investigation continues and charges are pending the results of the blood draw, which was submitted to the Indiana Department of Toxicology.
Due to the Nipsco pole being knocked down, much of the area lost power. Kennedy Avenue is still closed as Nipsco crews work to replace the pole and restore power.
