
Aric Fulton Convicted on All Counts in Hammond Assault Case
A Lake County jury has convicted Aric D. Fulton on all eight counts in connection with a November 2022 assault and shooting in Hammond. The verdict was returned on May 22, 2025.
According to court documents, the incident occurred inside an apartment in the 7000 block of Linden Avenue in Hammond on November 22, 2022. The victim reported being invited to the apartment by Fulton. Once inside, the victim was shot in the upper left thigh, struck with a baseball bat and golf club, and restrained with a strap and extension cord. The victim also reported being choked unconscious and confined in a garbage bag before being released.
The victim returned to a residence in Lansing, Illinois, wearing only underwear and socks. Emergency services were contacted. Medical records and law enforcement photos documented injuries consistent with the reported events.
Police later executed a search warrant at the Hammond apartment. Investigators recovered blood evidence, a bat, straps, zip ties, and other items described by the victim. The victim identified Fulton in a photo lineup.
Fulton was convicted of the following offenses:
- Attempted Murder – Level 1 Felony
- Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury – Level 2 Felony
- Criminal Confinement – Level 3 Felony
- Aggravated Battery – Level 3 Felony
- Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon (2 counts) – Level 5 Felonies
- Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury – Level 5 Felony
- Strangulation – Level 6 Felony
The jury was in deliberation for three hours today. Sentencing for Fulton is 7/18/25.
