Armed Robbery Suspect in Custody After Lake Station Walgreens Hold-Up
LAKE STATION — A fast-moving investigation led to the arrest of a man accused of robbing a local Walgreens at machete-point early Sunday morning.
According to the Lake Station Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:05 AM on November 9, 2025, to the Walgreens store on Central & Ripley for a report of an armed robbery in progress.
When officers arrived, they learned that a male suspect entered the store brandishing a machete and demanded employees empty the registers. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, but no one was physically injured during the incident.
Working quickly, patrol officers and detectives, with assistance from community members, local businesses, and tips from officers across multiple agencies were able to identify, locate, and arrest the suspect before lunchtime, police said.
“This was a true team effort,” the department said in a statement. “The quick apprehension was made possible by hard work from our patrol division, detectives, and cooperation from both the public and our law enforcement partners.”
The suspect is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on a probable cause hold, with formal charges expected to be filed Monday.
