BREAKING: Officer Injured in Lake County Pursuit Crash in Gary
A Lake County Sheriff’s Office pursuit ended in a serious crash near 9th Avenue and Ralston Street in Gary, where the fleeing suspect’s vehicle went head-on into a sheriff’s squad car, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.
Multiple medics and fire crews were requested to the scene for extrication. A female passenger in the fleeing vehicle was extricated at 6:33 p.m. and transported for medical treatment.
The deputy involved was bleeding at the scene and was transported by squad car for treatment. The officer is alert and conscious, Martinez said.
The suspect/driver is in custody, according to Sheriff Martinez, who confirmed the details in a direct call and said he will provide an update on the officers condition when more information becomes available.
