Burglary Charge Filed After Security Footage Shows Man Removing Pet Cat
Jeffrey Raymond Crider, 20, of DeMotte, has been charged and arrested after investigators say security footage captured him breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Hebron apartment, cutting out a window screen, entering the residence, and leaving with her pet cat.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on October 22, 2025, at approximately 11:45 AM, police were dispatched to the 200 block of Pratt Street in Hebron for a prior disturbance and possible break-in. Security footage reviewed by investigators reportedly showed Crider lurking around the vehicle and apartment of his ex-girlfriend before moving toward a window.
Police report the footage captured Crider cutting and tearing the window screen, then opening the window and leaning inside the apartment, where he removed a pet feline. Crider then took the cat to his vehicle and left the scene. Court documents note this was the second time in two days he had taken the same cat; in the earlier incident he returned it after police were contacted.
Lodged in the Porter County Jail on December 3,2025.
