Burnham Man Accused of Assaulting Nurse While Under Medical Restraint

A Burnham man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a nurse while under medical care and physical restraint at a local healthcare facility on the night of May 4, 2025.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Munster Police responded to a battery report at 901 MacArthur Blvd, Community Hospital at approximately 10:15 a.m. on May 5. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the victim who is a nurse at the facility.

The nurse reported that around 10:45 p.m. the previous evening, he was attending to 25-year-old Abdullah Addeeb, a patient who was already restrained to his bed due to prior behavioral issues. The nurse stated that Addeeb had chewed through one of his restraints and, when approached, used his free arm to strike the nurse in the chest with a closed fist.

The nurse reported experiencing pain from the blow and confirmed to police that he wishes to press charges against Addeeb. Security staff at the facility were able to intervene quickly, restraining Addeeb again using a four-point system.

Authorities noted that Addeeb has a documented history of aggressive behavior toward medical staff, which contributed to the urgency of the response.

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Addeeb with a Level 6 Felony – Battery On A Public Safety Official.
