Burns Harbor Man Charged With Felony Battery Involving Child

Burns Harbor- A Burns Harbor man is facing a felony charge after police say he pushed a chair into a young child, causing visible bruising.

According to court documents, on September 11, 2025, Joshua Scott Moyers, 25, allegedly pushed a chair into the body of his 4-year-old child during an incident at a residence in the 300 block of Maple Lane in Burns Harbor. Police reported the chair was pushed against a wall, leaving bruising on the child’s hips .

A report states that several days later, a parent observed the bruising and photographed the injuries. The photos were later shared with investigators and a Department of Child Services (DCS) caseworker. The caseworker also observed a bruise and knot on the child’s temple and forehead, and arranged for x-rays and a CT scan at a local hospital, which were negative for internal injuries .

Police documented the injuries with photos and collected text messages exchanged between the parent, Moyers, and Moyers’ girlfriend. Investigators noted that differing explanations for the injuries were given through text, including that the bruising may have occurred from a refrigerator incident at a relative’s home or from falling on a toy firetruck .
