Calumet City Man Charged After Allegedly Using Car to Strike Ex-Girlfriend’s Partner in Hammond

A Calumet City man is facing multiple felony charges in Indiana after allegedly striking a man with his vehicle during a violent confrontation in Hammond.

Daquan E. Howard was charged in Lake County on July 10, 2025, following a hit-and-run incident that occurred on July 6 near State Line Avenue and Webb Street. According to court documents, Howard encountered his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend and initiated an argument.

During the confrontation, Howard allegedly struck the woman three times in the back of the head. When the man attempted to walk away eastbound on Webb Street, Howard reportedly accelerated his red Mazda and struck him from behind, launching him over the roof of the vehicle. Howard then fled the scene.

A witness confirmed the events and reported seeing Howard’s vehicle fleeing into Calumet City, Illinois. Responding officers located an Illinois license plate at the scene, which was traced to a red Mazda registered to Howard. The victim was transported by medics to the University of Chicago Hospital, suffering heavy bleeding from multiple lacerations but was conscious at the scene.

About an hour after the incident, Howard appeared at the Calumet City Police Department to report that his front license plate had been stolen.

Charges filed July 10, 2025:

    •    Aggravated Battery – Level 3 Felony (Posing a substantial risk of death)

    •    Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony

    •    Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury – Level 5 Felony

    •    Criminal Recklessness (Aggressive driving causing serious bodily injury) – Level 6 Felony

    •    Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Moderate or Serious Bodily Injury – Level 6 Felony

    •    Domestic Battery – Class A Misdemeanor
