Calumet City Police Officer Struck By Suspect Vehicle

On Tuesday, March 24, 2020 around 9am a Calumet City Police officer on patrol discovered a stolen vehicle which was occupied on the 300 block of Calhoun, according to Calumet City Police Chief Christopher Fletcher. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle the driver of the stolen vehicle accelerated and struck the officer. The Calumet City Officer opened fire to defend himself, Fletcher stated. The suspects then fled and led police on a chase which ended in Chicago near 103rd & Stoney Island where Chicago Police found the suspects. The suspects were injured and treated but now in police custody according to Fletcher. The officer who was struck was transported to Franciscan Hammond and released in good condition. Illinois State Police Integrity Unit is investigating the police shooting, while the Calumet City Police are handing the criminal side of the investigation.
