
Calumet City Police Respond to Overnight Gunfight; One in Custody
A person is in custody after a shooting incident involving police officers late Tuesday night near Sibley.
According to Calumet City Police, officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. to the 400 block of Buffalo Avenue after receiving reports of a large fight. While officers were en route, a 911 caller reported that shots had been fired, with dispatchers hearing gunfire in the background.
When officers arrived, they encountered multiple individuals actively exchanging gunfire. Police said during the chaos, officers spotted an armed suspect in a nearby alley. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, the suspect allegedly turned toward officers, prompting police to open fire.

Authorities confirmed no one was struck during the exchange. Two individuals fled the area amid the gunfire. A SWAT team was seen surrounding a home an hour after the incident where a suspect was believed to have surrendered to police.

Investigators recovered two firearms at the scene.
Police stressed that no officers or community members were injured.
