Car Crashes Into Lansing Cleaners In Munster After Police Pursuit

At approximately 2:15 am on Friday, a Highland police officer was stopped at the traffic signal at US41 and Ridge Road when he observed a Silver Pontiac disregard the red traffic light for Northbound US41 to turn westbound onto Ridge Road, according to Commander John Banasiak of The Highland Police.  The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle as it continued westbound at a high rate of speed approaching 75mph.  The vehicle then attempted to make a left/south turn onto Oakwood Avenue in Munster when it left the roadway and the front of the vehicle struck the east wall of Lansing Cleaners.  The driver was able to exit his vehicle through the sunroof and he was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Timothy M. Lewis (a 21 year old male from Hammond, IN).

The driver was charged with Disregarding an automatic signal, Reckless Driving, Unsafe Lane Movement, Failure to Signal, Resisting by Flight, and Possession of Marijuana.  The traffic crash was investigated by Munster Police Department.  The Driver was processed at the Highland Police Department and was then released on a $1,000 cash bond.
