Cedar Lake Cleaning Woman Charged With Theft Over $50k
Winfield Police were contacted by a resident after it was discovered she was missing jewelry, prescription pills, and gold coins valued around $118,000, according to court documents. The resident advised police the theft occurred sometime between October and December.
The resident told police she had recently purchased new gold coins and added them into her collection she was saving for retirement when she noticed around 45 coins were missing. No one knew of the coins except her adult children who were ruled out as suspects in the theft. The resident advised police only one other person could have been a suspect she was aware of, a cleaning lady she hired from a social media app.
A few weeks later the resident called the police once again realizing she was missing some other items including a Pandora bracelet, a gold chain, and Tramadol prescription pills.
Police began an investigation into the thefts that lead them to investigate a hired cleaning lady from Cedar Lake. Police learned the cleaning lady was recently stopped in St John for a traffic violation and a suspended license. She was also found to have unprescribed pills on her person as well during this stop.
On December 22, 2024 Winfield Detectives stopped the cleaning lady now identified as Kristina Oliver for a traffic infraction and driving on a suspended license. Oliver was asked to come the department and speak with detectives about an unrelated matter which she agreed.
During the course of the interview Oliver was asked about the prescription pills she was arrested with in St John, to which she replied it was an old prescription of hers. Through medical records police were able to discover she was lying about ever having a prescription. Police then asked Oliver about the missing jewelry from one of her clients home, which she replied she knew nothing about. Oliver was told the interview was over and she would be transported to jail for the traffic infractions.
Oliver then began to cry and openly admitted to stealing items including the missing coins to make sure her children had a good Christmas. Oliver told police the coins were at her home and she had sold a few to a coin shop for cash. Oliver agreed to let police come to her house to retrieve the remaining stolen coins. When police arrived at her home she handed detectives 12 gold coins. When asked where the other coins were, she then admitted to selling more than what she initially admitted to detectives.
Oliver has since been charged with Theft with value over $50k. Oliver currently has a warrant out for her arrest.
