Cedar Lake Fire Sunday Morning Destroys Home

The Cedar Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 11823 W. 143rd Ave around 5:58 AM, according to Cedar Lake Fire Chief Todd Wilkening. The flames were seen shooting through the roof on the 3000 square foot ranch when firefighters arrived. Cedar Lake toned out a 2nd alarm on this incident because the area has no fire hydrants and Water Tankers were needed, Wilkening said. Firefighters were on scene for approximately three hours and used 40,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. Three searches were done on this house due to the residents being unaccounted for but officials later learned they were out safely. This fire remains under investigation.

Cedar Lake Fire Department was assisted by St. John, Lowell, Hebron, Crete Township, Four Seasons, Beecher, Grant Park, Crown Point, Lake Dale, and Lake Hills.
