Charges Filed Against Man In Truck Stop Shooting Using AK47
On April 1, 2021 Lieutenant Pawlak of the Gary Police Department secured charges against Gerald Jerome Fogle Sr, a 66-year-old male from Gary.
The charges stem from a March 30, 2021 incident in which Fogle opened fire with an AK47 rifle at the Love’s Truck Stop located at 3150 Grant Street, Gary, IN. Fogle fired multiple shots into the ground while customers were entering and exiting the business.
The location was open with patrons and employees inside who locked doors and took cover. No one was injured during the incident and Fogle was taken into custody on-scene. Gerald Jerome Fogle Sr is charged with six separate felony counts of Criminal Recklessness and one count of Criminal Mischief. It is believed Fogle is veteran who suffers from PTSD and the circumstances on why he did this are not clear.
Gary Officers working that night are commended for their quick response and for steps taken to ensure no individuals were injured, Lt. Dawn Westerfield added.
