Chesterton Fire Department’s Quick Response Saves Home

A Chesterton home on the 1500 block of Birdie Lane had a close call today that could have ended much worse Chesterton Fire Department Chief John Jarka, said Sunday. An exterior only fire started on the side of a dwelling from improperly disposed ashes in a trash can next to the home, Jarka stated. Chesterton Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the fire with just their department thanks to a quick response.  Some damage did occur to the gas meter and NIPSCO will be on scene for several hours repairing the main gas line, Jarka told Region News.  No injuries and all occupants of the home are safe.
