Chesterton Man Charged With Identity Theft

An ongoing investigation into a home aide in Naperville concluded Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, with the arrest of a Chesterton, Indiana man on felony aggravated identity theft and theft charges.

This investigation was initiated in October 2021 when a family member of an elderly Naperville resident reported a live-in tenant and aide failed to fulfill his obligations and abused the elderly person’s trust. The subject was supposed to assist the victim, who is over 60 years old, with house chores and making sure basic monthly bills were paid on time. Instead, the subject’s alleged inactions contributed to the mortgage being unpaid for nearly two years, gas being shut off, and the victim being treated at a hospital for dehydration and pneumonia.

The subject also had access to the victim’s finances and personal information since 2019. Over time, the subject allegedly applied for credit card(s) using the victim’s information and adding himself as an authorized user. Additionally, the subject allegedly stole money from the victim’s accounts. The total loss sustained by the victim was over $100,000.00.

During the investigation, Naperville Police identified the alleged offender as Zoran Tasevski, 43, of Chesterton, Indiana.

With the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service and Chesterton Police Department, Tasevski was taken into custody in Indiana on Jan. 23, 2024. Tasevski was transported to Naperville and then DuPage County Jail on Feb. 5, 2024. Tasevski was charged with one count of Aggravated Identity Theft, a Class X felony, and one count of Theft, Class 1 felony.
