Chicago Man Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Crash, Foot Chase, and Firearm Recovery

According to court documents, a Chicago man was arrested after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop on Interstate 80 at high speed, crashing into another vehicle, and fleeing on foot.

On June 29, 2025, at approximately 11:26 p.m., a trooper with the Indiana State Police was parked on the inside shoulder of I-80 near the 0.7-mile marker, monitoring eastbound traffic. The trooper observed a blue SUV traveling east in lane one at an extremely high rate of speed, passing other vehicles. Radar confirmed the vehicle was moving at 103 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.

The trooper pulled out to initiate a traffic stop and activated emergency lights. The SUV, identified as a blue 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio with Indiana plates, initially pulled over near the 2.1-mile marker. As the trooper exited the patrol vehicle, the SUV accelerated away at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit followed with emergency lights and sirens activated. The SUV began weaving through traffic, changing lanes rapidly, and at one point drove on the shoulder and crossed the gore area dividing merging lanes from the main roadway. The pursuit reached speeds over 100 mph. The vehicle exited I-80 and continued northbound on Cline Avenue.

As it approached the exit to 169th Avenue, the SUV drove on the shoulder and struck a passenger vehicle before veering into the grass. Officers initiated a felony stop. A Black male exited the driver’s side and fled northwest on foot. He crossed multiple lanes of Cline Avenue and jumped a concrete median. A trooper gave verbal commands and pursued the individual before tackling him. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Two other adult males were found seated in the rear of the SUV and were detained. The driver of the struck vehicle reported abdominal pain and was transported for medical evaluation.

The fleeing suspect was identified as Keanu R. Bingham, 24, of Chicago. A custodial search revealed a plastic bag with suspected marijuana in his pocket. Additional marijuana was located in backpacks inside the SUV. Field testing confirmed the presence of THC, with a total estimated weight of 17.5 grams.

A police K9 unit, K9 Zero, conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and gave a positive alert for narcotics. A second police K9, named Cooper, was brought in for an article search in the area where Bingham had fled. K9 Cooper located a Glock 30 pistol approximately 20 to 30 feet north of the crash site. The firearm was loaded and equipped with a switch that converts it to fully automatic fire.

When questioned, one of the other occupants of the SUV, after being advised of his rights, stated that the person driving at the time of the stop was “the black dude.” He denied owning the marijuana and claimed he had been asleep.

A criminal history check revealed that Bingham was previously convicted of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon in October 2024 in Cook County, Illinois.

Bingham was charged on July 1, 2025 with:
