Chicago Man Charged After Stolen SUV Pursuit from Indiana to Downtown Chicago
A Chicago man has been charged after a May 26, 2025, high-speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle that began in Indiana and ended in Illinois.
According to court documents, at approximately 12:44 a.m., a Lake County Sheriff’s officer observed a black Dodge Durango traveling northbound on Cline Avenue near the 80/94 on-ramp. The vehicle had been flagged after fleeing from Calumet City Police and was associated with a false and fictitious registration.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled westbound on I-80/94 at speeds exceeding 140 mph. Police reported the driver weaved across all lanes of traffic, nearly causing several collisions and forcing other motorists to take evasive action. Near Kennedy Avenue, the driver was seen throwing a black backpack out of the window. It was later recovered and found to contain suspected marijuana.
The pursuit continued into Illinois, where the vehicle exited onto Roosevelt Road in Chicago. Officers performed a PIT maneuver near Canal Street, bringing the vehicle to a stop. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Dwayne Allen Jackson, was removed at gunpoint and placed in double-locked restraints.
The public VIN on the dashboard had been deliberately covered, but a secondary VIN confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Lincolnshire, Illinois. Officers contacted the registered owner, who stated he was the sole owner of the Dodge Durango and had not given Jackson or anyone else permission to drive or possess it.
Inside the vehicle, officers found additional marijuana and a prescription pill bottle containing oxycodone.
Charges were filed on May 27, 2025.
